On a Sunday afternoon in October—just a few hours before a nor’easter showed up—Maddy and James met me in Troy for their engagement session. It turned into a playful race to see how many photos we could squeeze in before the rain started.

We wandered through the brick streets and walked through the park, stopping anywhere that caught our eye. They were so easy together—lots of genuine smiles, quick hugs, and plenty of laughter in between shots. The cloudy sky and the sun peaking through actually gave us the perfect soft light, and the whole session felt relaxed and easygoing.

Even with the storm on the way, the afternoon was fun, simple, and totally “them.” It couldn’t have been a better way to capture their engagement.
